Specialization of Adolescent Development January 24, 2011

On this blog I will be researching throughout history when the specialization of adolescents and children came about. At one time there was just a general medicine where children and adolescents were treated the same as adults but at a certain point doctors and researchers realized that child development is still going on and is different than adults. I am going to focus some on psychological diseases like multiple personality disorders and research the difference of how they were treated a long time ago than today. I also think it would be interesting to see how different countries treated their patients and children and see how different it is from the United States. Some countries may not have all the medicines and techniques that the U.S. has access to, so I think it would be interesting to see how they handled their children without those medicines. In the U.S. the first children’s hospital was founded by Dr. J. Roswell Gallagher at Boston’s Children’s Hospital in 1951. This is when the adolescent branched off from pediactrics and from adult healthcare.
